Gerald Rudolph Ford, the 38th President of the United States, was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., the son of Leslie Lynch King and Dorothy Ayer Gardner King, on July 14, 1913, in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents separated two weeks after his birth, and his mother took him to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to live with her parents. Kingman Brewster was born in Longmeadow, Massachusetts on June 17, 1919. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale in 1941 and his law degree from Harvard in 1948. Brewster taught law at Harvard from 1949-1960. He served as provost of Yale from 1961-1963 and was president of Yale from 1963-1977. Brewster was U.S. ambassador to Great Britain from 1977-1981.
